There is a lot of work from home jobs being offered these days. And a lot of them help in earning a fairly good amount of money. So how do you decide which ones are good and which ones are scams? Well it all boils down to common sense and a little inside knowledge.
Before we even start, we must first know that work from home opportunities will not help you earn a fortune. This is not how you are going to make your millions. If it’s your own business model, then fine; there is a good chance of you earning obscenely high amounts in sometime with hard work. But if you just chanced upon an advertisement on the internet claiming to be your means to the millionaires club, then it is sure that they want to take you to the cleaners.
The first rule in identifying a work from home job scam is to see how much money they are offering. If it’s something like 2000$ a week or so, it’s best you don’t even check the advertisement. It all comes down to this, no one is going to pay you money just to sit around and do nothing. The more the money they are offering, the worse you are going to get cleaned up once they are done with you.
If it’s a job for a million dollars and you clicked on it, probably the damage is already done. The virus or worm would have already entered your computer and corrupted your system. So best of luck!
If it’s a work at home job for something reasonable, say a 1000$ a week. In this case, they will most probably want some sort of deposit from you. It may be for training materials or even a small registration fee. And that small fee will multiply when thousands like you start paying.
And also, if they have asked you to pay by credit card, then be sure that they are going to take you to the cleaners. Your bank account will look all clean and new once they are done. Credit card fraud is a very serious issue, never give out your credit or debit card information on unsecure sites.
Then there are the money order scams. This is a work at home jobs scam that is pretty rampant currently. It’s all over craigslist (a free classifieds website). This involves someone saying that you will be paid by money order since he or she is away in a foreign country. He or she will also say that you have to use a portion of the money from the money order to buy goods/ make a different money order/ hand over to someone else. This way, the advertiser gets his money and makes good his escape. While in the meantime the bank that you cashed the original money order from will start chasing you down saying that it bounced.
Then finally we come to the pyramid schemes. In fact it is so popular that to call it a scam would be a shame. Amway is a name that has become world famous for this. And what is striking is that they still are going strong. You can just imagine how much money the initial start up guys are rolling in for no rhyme or reason. It’s actually a good business model since they have removed all the unnecessary expenditure like warehousing, advertising, and transportation from the entire production to customer cycle. But the catch is when the guy comes and tells you that the product you are buying doesn’t matter and all that matters is that you sell it to another guy.
